Gas prices near me
This site shows the weekly average gas price for the area nearest you, not the price at individual stations. The EIA, our data source, publishes averages for regions, 9 states and 10 metro areas, and does not publish prices by station. The current U.S. average is $4.284 per gallon for regular (week of October 19, 2026).

How to use an area average
An area average tells you what a typical gallon costs around you this week and whether that is rising or falling. It does not tell you which station is cheapest. Prices within a single metro area can vary from one station to the next, so check live prices at stations on your route before you fill up.
The gap between areas is large, though. Among the metro areas EIA tracks, Houston is cheapest at $3.710 and Los Angeles is highest at $6.021, a spread of $2.31 per gallon. That is about $34.66 on a 15-gallon tank (our calculation).
Because EIA data arrives weekly, the average is best used to spot trends: whether prices are rising, falling, or well above or below where they were a year ago.
Questions
- Does this site show prices at individual gas stations?
- No. The only source is the EIA’s weekly area averages. We would rather say so than imply station-level coverage we do not have.
- Why does the EIA not list my state or city?
- EIA surveys a limited set of areas: the U.S., five regional groupings and their sub-regions, nine states, and ten metro areas. If yours is not listed, the nearest tracked area or your region is the best available guide.
- How current is the data?
- The latest week is October 19, 2026. EIA updates once a week and this site checks for new figures every six hours.
